Hi all,
Has anyone here used AVG Internet Security? In the past, I've used their anti-virus, and it was accessible and all, but yesterday, I downloaded the Internet Security 30 day trial, (anti-virus, firewall, anti-spyware, etc.), and for some reason, it seems like something's wrong with it. I'm not sure if it's accessible or not. Every time I try to do something with it, I keep getting error report messages. I tried contacting the support team, but they have yet to reply to my email. Have any of you tried it?
I used to have AVG anti virus on my old computer, but it went out of date or something, so I never got round to getting it again.
Well, this one isn't just the anti-virus. It's a package of everything; anti-virus, anti-spyware, firewall, anti-rootkit, and some other things.
I'll have to see if I can get that again. Apparently the latest version isn't as accessible with jaws as the earlier versions.
Is that what's wrong with AVG Anti virus 8.0? I just upgraded and whenever I perform a scan, the results don't come up. Hell even when I try to open the user interface,, that won't even come up.,
I personally am worried about all in one packages. I heard its better to have separate items. I also heard its good to have 2 of each, just don't run them both at the same time. Sorry for asking questions here in your topic but may be we can all learn?
I just wanted something besides Norton. I absolutely hate Norton. The AVG Internet Security is supposed to be very good, and, in fact, it's proven that to me. I just cant' seem to use it with JAWS. Whenever I try to get to the interface to run a scan, etc, I just get error messages. However, yesterday, my sister tried it, and at first, it did the same thing to her. While she did it, she had left JAWS on, but then she turned it off, and it worked. I don't know why it wouldn't run while JAWS in running. That's weird. Anyway, she was able to use it fine without JAWS, which isn't any help to me, but like I said, it did prove to be a great program. It did a scheduled scan yesterday, and when the results came up, my sister read them to me, and it was just unbelievalbe how Norton misssed so many things. It was ridiculous. I just wish I could figure out why it is that when I try to use it myself, I get the error messages. I really hope that there is a way I can use this with JAWS.
wonder if it would work with NVDA, which doesn't use the video intercept like jaws. I find that many of the security programs which jaws interferes with work fine with NVDA.
What exactly is NVDA? I'm not all that computer savvy when it comes to things like that. LOL
Its another screen reader. I believe its free.
it is free. get from
http://www.nvda-project.org/
you just unzip it and run it. It can be run from any flash drive or cd rom as well. If you need it, they do have a regular installer version.
yes, the latest AVG set is a little bad. the firewall is a pain sometimes, might just try to find 7.5 again and hope it's still being supported
I've heard from the jaws-users list they will stop updating AVG 7.5 around the end of may, but don't quote me on this. For AVG 8, close jaws, start the AVG interface, then restart jaws, you may need sighted assistance as you may get something for the avg firewall before jaws starts.
HTH!
people at AVG or fs have to fix that. beginners aren't going to want to fight with it to just look at their settings. i personally don't care, i'm pretty good at doing stuff like that.
For people wondering about AVG, the latest AVG version of AVG(v 8.0) isn't accessible from what I've heard. I don't think AVG 7.5 is supported anymore,; I haven't seen anything about that on there website I mean them saying if it was still supported or not. And I hate Norton, too!
Question about AVG8
I have it scheduled to perform a scan daily. I can tell that it's doing it because of the lag in my computer performance while it's scanning. My question is, when it's complete, because it doesn't show the result screen, does it quarentine any viruses automatically?
Thanks,
Jen
Yes, when the scan is done, if it finds anything, it will automatically quarantine the items. I know this because when mine does the daily scan, my sister looks at the quarantined items to see if it found anything. The first time it did a scan, it found quite a few things that Norton never detected. That's one reason why I hate Norton. It did a terrible job. So far, I like this AVG package, as for the security, it's ability to find and get rid of things, etc. I just really wish it was accessible with JAWS. It's such a pain not being able to use it on my own.
This board answered a lot of my questions about the quarantined items and the accessibility. I haven't found out how to do the schedule the scanns. You can manually do a scann by going to the tools menu.
well, from what i hear the latest jaws patch fixes the interface problem. i haven't tried this yet but might soon
I'm having problums downloading the latest jaws update
